Overview

Regional Transmission Organizations (RTOs), also known as Independent System Operators (ISOs), are similar to the European TSOs. Their purpose is to manage the transmission of electricity across large geographic areas in the United States. They ensure reliability, facilitate competitive markets, and integrate various generation resources. This document will provide a high level intro to the wholesale deregulated RTOs in the USA. Note that RenewaFi currently covers only ERCOT, but is actively expanding to PJM.
